Kamloops News - Edmonton has answer to loud bikes

This was in the Kamloops News today: http://www.kamloopsnews.ca/article/2...-to-loud-bikes Edmonton has answer to loud bikes June 25,2010 I would like to suggest that the City of Kamloops add to the noise bylaw as the City of Edmonton has done with regard to motor noise. A microphone on a mini tripod is positioned 50 centimeters behind a motorcycle’s exhaust, at a 45-degree angle, and an idling bike must register below 92 decibels to comply with the city's new rules. A second test is done, which depends on the bike's engine. Three- or four-cylinder bikes revved to 5,000 revolutions per minute (rpm) must be quieter than 100 decibels. Other bikes must be quieter than 96 decibels while operating at 2,000 rpm. Motorcycles that are too loud will net the driver a $250 ticket, with fines increasing for repeat offenders up to a maximum of $10,000. The decibel limits are based on federal motor vehicle standards. The Edmonton City Police offered two days of testing so bikers can find out if their motorcycles comply with the noise limits laid out in the bylaw. Wouldn't it be nice if we could have Kamloops Traffic Section (RCMP) equipped with the necessary noise suppression tools so that we can enjoy the beautiful summer days without the loud offensive motorcycles?
